Urban Climate: Unlocking Insights into Urban Climate with the Application of Spatio-Temporal Big Data
Spatio-temporal big data provides a new perspective for studying urban climate, such as predicting climate change from a microscopic perspective. Compared with traditional datasets, spatio-temporal big data has higher temporal and spatial resolution, which can support analyzing multiscale research and provide insights that are obscured by the limitations of traditional datasets. Previous studies have shown that using spatio-temporal big data can better analyze urban climate issues. For example, it can examine the impact of urbanization on local climate and enrich our understanding of changes in temperature and precipitation patterns. It also can help predict and manage extreme weather events in cities. These studies demonstrate that spatio-temporal big data can provide a strong scientific basis for urban climate, including environmental protection and climate regulation strategies.
However, applying spatio-temporal big data to urban climate studies faces challenges, including data quality, methodologies, and data security and privacy. The complexity of these challenges necessitates a multidisciplinary approach that considers the technical, scientific, and ethical dimensions of spatio-temporal big data use.
The aim of this special issue is to analyze the potential and challenges of applying spatio-temporal big data to urban climate research. We seek to explore a wide range of themes, including but not limited to the processing, modeling, analysis, and practical application of spatio-temporal big data in urban climate research. We encourage submission of empirical, theoretical, and case studies on spatio-temporal big data in urban climate research, to provide innovative ideas and methods for urban climate research.
